5. Individual Review of Eligibility to Apply for Admission

Candidates are essentially required to be graduates of a four year university or college to be eligible to take the entrance examination for the master’s degree program. However the school will take into consideration the practical experience of candidates who have a total of 3 years or more practical experience and will allow those candidates whom it individually recognizes as possessing skills and abilities equivalent to a university graduate to take the examination.

Applicants who wish to receive an Individual Review of Eligibility to Apply for Admission as set forth in 2. Eligibility to Apply for Admission (4) should prepare their application and supporting documents and send them by registered mail/express post to ensure that they arrive before the application deadline (addressed to Graduate School of Health Care Sciences, Jikei Institute Entrance Examination Committee) or bring them in person to the General Affairs Department of the Graduate School of Health Care Sciences, Jikei Institute (Osaka Jikei Gakuen shared campus, 9th floor).

(1) Application and Supporting Documents

①Application for Individual Review of Eligibility to Apply for Admission and Statement
Complete these using the forms provided by the school. Forms may be completed in Japanese or English.
② Personal Statement
The applicants must use A4 sized paper for their Personal Statements. There is no set format.
The personal statement should be approximately 2000 characters if written in Japanese or 400 words if written in English. The statement should include details of the applicant’s work and research history as well as the research the applicant would like to pursue in the future. The applicant may include no more than 2 charts or diagrams, and the statement should not exceed 3 pages.
③ Certificate of Graduation from the Applicant’s Final Graduating School
Certificate of Graduation must be issued by the applicant’s graduating school. If the document is in a language other than Japanese or English, a Japanese or English translation must be sent together with the document. The same applies to all other documents below.
④ Official Transcripts from the Applicant’s Final Graduating School
Official transcripts must be issued by the applicant’s graduating school.
⑤ Documents Proving Practical Experience
Certificate pertaining to 3 years or more work experience. The specific format for the certificates is left open. If one particular instance of work experience is 3 years or longer, the applicant may submit the certificate for that workplace. If not, the applicant may submit multiple certificates which together total 3 years or more of work experience.
⑥ Copies of Academic Papers Etc.
Applicants who have written academic papers, conference papers, or other essays or articles should submit copies of the abstracts.
⑦ Copies of Professional Medical and Other Qualification Certificates
Applicants who possess national qualifications and so forth should submit copies of the certificates.
⑧ Reply Envelope
Applicants should write their return address on a policy-type #3 envelope (120 mm x 235 mm) and affix sufficient postage.

Candidates will be informed of the results of the 1st examination of Individual Eligibility to Apply for Admission results in time for each 2nd examination.

(3) Candidates who are successful in the documentary examination in the aforementioned Individual Review of Eligibility to Apply for Admission will undergo a 2nd examination consisting of a written examination (short essay of 1000 characters in Japanese or 400 words in English) and an interview examination. The short essay will assess candidates’ writing and logical organizational skills while the interview examination will assess primarily the research that candidates want to conduct after enrolling in the school.

(4) Candidates who are successful in the 2nd examination must submit the application for admission and supporting documents to the General Affair Department of this graduate school promptly in accordance with 3. Application Process.
